The AFCDP was created in 2004, following passage of the French Data Protection Act of 6 August 2004 which created the position of Data Protection Correspondent (“CIL”) for public and private sector organizations.

When it comes to personal data protection, the law alone is not enough. Greater added value, a differentiating factor, optimisation, compliance, corporate social responsibility, transparency, trust, ethics... there are many reasons behind the decision to appoint a Data Protection Officer with the CNIL. In this time of regulatory change and as risks connected with data processing grow, many french company leaders have chosen to appoint a Privacy Officer : ten of them share their story here.
The main objectives of the AFCDP are to :
implement a service to alert members to technological, legal and managerial developments relevant to CIL status and tasks,
inform citizens and organizations about the existence of the CIL and to raise their awareness of CIL status and tasks
develop relationships with the French National Data Protection Commission (CNIL) and other European and French authorities that oversee the protection of personal data,
draft documents relating to the purpose of the Association and to make recommendations and/or provide opinions to public authorities and data protection stakeholders,
promote and develop relationships with universities and schools,
encourage exchange among members in order to identify and promote best professional practices,
defend the interests of the profession and function to the public sector :

The Association is administered by a 15-member board of directors, elected from the membership at the Annual General Assembly.
All Board members serve four-year terms.
